The United Nationalities of Marbella is launching a #LeanOnMe campaign to help La Barandilla (a Spanish non-profit association) turn their helpline service into 24hrs/365days and additionally establish an international extension for those who don’t speak Spanish.
La Barandilla has opened a separate account for United Nationalities of Marbella so that we can decide how best to spend the funds to support a 24 hr / 365 day a year international suicide prevention helpline.

Often, it’s easier to talk to a stranger so clearly professionals must be more readily available to all children and if there isn’t anyone to talk to, encourage calling a helpline. Sometimes all we need is to talk to someone and hear our thoughts out loud to be free of them. We need to ensure a helpline number comes to mind and the number is always available if needs be

We have 147 nationalities registered on the Marbella Town census and many wonderful hospitals, clinics and qualified professionals who, together, could provide this international aspect and share the responsibility of answering the phones, 24/7. If you are interested in collaborating please contact info@u-n-m.org.
The cost of covering qualified staff for a helpline that runs 24 hours a day and 365 days a year is obviously high. Although volunteers are most welcome they cannot and should not be relied upon and so funds must be raised to cover professionals and the overtime for nights, weekends and holiday shifts.
At this moment this phone line is only available in Spanish.
We would also like to help turn this lifeline into an international speaking service and then promote the number to ensure nobody feels they have no one to call.
No contribution is too small #BetterTogether

We offer an exclusive lifestyle, excellent schools and universities, but what next? What prospects do our children have in a city they now call home. It is our obligation to offer them internships, training and career prospects within our local community, otherwise all the brightest will leave and our city will stagnate. It is in everyone's best interests to ensure our children can grow up and settle down here; which they might if we provide them with the basics.
Following the Covid crisis a lot more businesses are realising the importance of our local resident community.
When we held our first #UNMS2016 the children that were then 14 are now 20.... they would already be paying clients to many a business, if they had reached out to the children when they needed to be guided and heard.
This is our opportunity to listen and react. We appeal to local businesses to fulfil their social contract with our future generations and welcome them into their businesses, providing designated spaces, staff and entertainment to ensure that they will have all the privileges our city professes.
